Enchanted Woodlands (Woodland eco systems) Habitats, types of woodland, wood as a resource, care of the environment including tree identification, mini beasts & mini-beast ‘hotels’, deciduous/evergreen trees environments & pond dipping. Combined with traditional Fairy tales-fairies, pixies, elves & goblins! – potion making, stirring sticks, Fairy-dewdrop bracelets, wand making, stories from the magical wooden book & more!
Woodland art and sculpture Create sculptures, art from natural materials, painting and printing.
Animals of the woodland Animals, habitats, pond dipping, tracking, food chains and webs.
Maps and orienteering Exploration of the site, observing landscape, orientation, the use of binoculars, what to take on an adventure & how to pack your rucksack, how to plan a camp & camp craft, basic/advanced navigation and compass work.
Trees Tree identification, parts of a plant, seeds & photosynthesis and techniques for measuring their age, girth, height, leaf area etc.
Seasons Spring buds , berries and fruit, autumn leaves, winter migration and hibernation, survival strategies.
Geology KS2 Rocks & soil formation, fossils & fossil casting and gold panning.
Team Challenge KS2 Challenging fun activities to develop teamwork, coperation, problem solving and communication.
Wild woodcraft KS2 Build shelters, fire lighting, tracking and campfire cooking.
Sensory discovery Blindfold trails, feely bags, tracking skills, bare foot walks, identifying plants through smell, what’s edible in the woods & how to safely taste, soil & rock textures, decaying natural woodland materials
Green woodworking KS2 The safe use of hand tools, cutting & splitting wood, making items from green wood product and Pulleys & Levers – using ropes, pulleys, hitches to move heavy woodland objects.
