Some wonderful young people followed the tracking signs up to our camp in the woods and straight away launched into a session on spark creation and how to begin their fire lay set ups for future camping trips with mum n dad!
Having excelled as seven year olds at using ferrocerium rods, by managing to light cotton pads as shown and by now ‘full-of-beans’ from a self -reliance point of view! the guys moved on to create their own team flags for their den making session and apply burned cork to their faces in true woodland warrior fashion!
Next up was learning all about leaving signs on trails for others to follow, after a run-through of the examples laid out for them; it was off in their teams into the dark forest to lay out signs for the other team to follow later.
After 20 minutes or so, the teams returned to camp, having hidden some chocolate treasure at the end of their trial and the teams swapped over, to recover the other teams treasure!
After a quick cup of hot chocolate around the camp-fire, it was off again into the woods, armed with their flags, tarps, strings, ropes, bungees and poles to build their own dens. Phew, around 40 minutes later, each team were munching away at their pizza slices in the luxury of the shelters. What a fantastic party guys, see you all again soon!
