Well we were joined up in the woods this week, for two days with a superb couple of Y1 groups all eager to do loads of art work and sculptures but totally mad for the Fairy realm themes too!
Apart from the fantastic amount of excitement at being in an actual forest the learners soon got down to some imaginative designing and colour filled collages. First up the guys in groups were handed netted bags to collect as many varied and interestingly shaped and coloured leaves as possible, as they wound their way up through the woodland to our camp setting in the forest. This took around an hour of hard work which included tree and leaf identification!
A steaming hot chocolate was to follow around the camp fire as we led them into the aspects of ‘home’ building, to marry with their classroom materials and textures application work.
Then it was off into the dark forest to locate our ‘caught-in-time’ by the sun-up fairies! Once gathered up,
the learners set about making shelters, dens, Princess Towers, castles, forts, underground tunnels, tree-houses , gardens, swings, ponds, pathways and loads more!
Wow some great ideas were had by all and executed with wonderful aplomb! Everyone got stuck in and those usually less likely to be involved at school were seen and observed by their staff to really come-out- of -their-shells!
Once the fairies were suitably concealed and safely tucked away in their shelters, it was back up to the camp to find a stirring stick. Then they headed off to a different part of the forest, to find the ingredients for potions; once collected and mixed with waters of note, the guys sat down.
We ran through the names of the potions, their stirring stick names and they decided upon what their potions could do! Lunch followed along with loads of chatting at the camp fire, laughter, singing along and stories told about the forest!
Next up, we turned to making art-work from the earlier gathered materials and boy-oh-boy were the outcomes amazing as I’m sure you’ll agree from these photos!
Marshmallow toasting finished off the days, as the by now flagging folks headed out of the woods to their awaiting transport. Thanks for coming folks, see you all again soon!
